Date Night/Skate Night
Start spring break with a SHAPE free skate night.
Meadow View’s own Emerald City Roller Girl, Amber Plaunty, will host the Bethel Staff Roller Skating Night this coming Friday night, the 21st, at 7:30 at Willamalane in Springfield.
This is a free event, including the skates.
Bring a co-worker, friend, date, spouse or partner…but it’s adults only, at Willamalate Park and Recreation Center, 250 s. 32nd St.
If you try only one SHAPE class one time we can add you to our data to support the funding of the SHAPE grant for next year.
Talk to a co-worker, gather up the courage, and you both can try one of the many fun and invigorating classes. They’re just for Bethel staff.
WARNING: Chances are likely you’ll want to return for more.
beBethel Fit 5K and Half Marathon
Training is about to take place for the beBethel Fit 5K and Half Marathon on June 14th. This community fun-run will take place within the Bethel School District boundaries and all proceeds will go directly to the Bethel Education Foundation and our schools.
Bethel’s Collaboration Grant Coordinator, Carlos Sequeira will be training interested high school students for the Half Marathon. His focus is on students at-risk, but any students interested can train and run. He would like to have other adults join in on at least the Saturday runs to act as pacing partners and mentors to the students.

Let It Roll
Bethel’s (and Meadow View’s) own roller queen, Amber Plaunty will host SHAPE’s Free Roller Skating Night at Willamalane in Springfield. Watch for the flyer coming your way next week.
Mark this date: March 21st, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Skate Night is for Bethel staff, their significant others, and friends/dates only (no kids). Amber will offer skating instruction for newcomers, and it’s all free, including the skate rental.
Kickboxing Packs A Punch
The newest SHAPE class has Bethel staff moving. Kickboxing is now offered at Cascade on Tuesdays at 4:30.
To make sure the proper technique is being used, instructor Brian Jones had everyone practice punching a bag before the real cardiovascular workout kicked in.
You know you’re in good hands with Jones; he has coached Aikido at the University of Oregon, also leads classes at the Core Star Center in Eugene.
What’s Your Color?
Thanks to SHAPE, Bethel staff members get a discount at the Color Me Rad 5k and the Dirty Dash.
Just use the code word BETHEL during registration and race organizers will knock 10% off the registration cost and return it to SHAPE in order to provide more exercise classes for you.
Four Spots Available In Low Fat St. Pat’s
With one class quickly filled, SHAPE has created a second free Healthy Cooking class on Wednesday March 12th, from 5:00-7:30 at Willamette.
Low Fat St. Pat’s will feature a traditional Irish-themed menu:
- Guinness-Infused Beef Stout Stew
- Potato and Cauliflower Mash
- Braised Greens
- Irish Soda Bread
- Bread Pudding with Irish Cream Sauce
This free class is taught by experienced nutritionists and cooks, and is open to all Bethel staff members. With just four spots remaining, Email Jenny Kolpak right away to secure your place in this class. Bring your appetite because you get to eat what you cook.
New Classes Offer Variety
Here’s a gentle reminder of the new SHAPE classes now underway. Kickboxing at Cascade on Tuesdays and Tabata at Fairfield on Wednesdays,
Kickboxing channels your aggressiveness into a spirited cardiovascular workout, without actually punching anything – or anyone.
Tabata is a circuit-style class that will keep you moving from one exercise activity to another.
Read about all the SHAPE classes on the SHAPE website.
Basketball Bounces Back
Tuesday after-work SHAPE basketball is catching on. Five on five full-court games were played last week and there’s room for more.
Join us every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at Meadow View from 4:15-5:30. Drop in any time to join the games, and take home a gift card incentive just for showing up.
