SHAPE is a grant-funded program designed to promote and foster health and wellness among Bethel School District employees. SHAPE seeks to address the primary health needs of physical activity, nutrition education and stress management through fun, rewarding and free activities open to all district staff.

Step Up To The Pedometer Challenge

Clear Lake staff is the first to take the SHAPE Pedometer Challenge. They start Monday and intend to set the bar pretty high for every other building. Shasta has accepted the Challenge for December.

Healthy Cooking Class – Soup From Scratch

Bethel’s Rosa Mariotti will be among the instructors teaching how to whip up delicious soups in next week’s free Healthy Cooking class.

Act now. There are still a few spots available for the SHAPE Healthy Cooking class next Tuesday. You’ll learn how to prepare how to make Tuscan White Bean Soup, Thai Chicken Soup, Mushroom Farro, Miso Soup, Fish Chowder, and our Bethel Nutrition Services favorite Harvest Soup.

This free class is at 5:00 p.m. in the Meadow View Caforium, next Tuesday, October 28th.  To sign up email Jennie Kolpak. Those who have signed up should have received a confirmation email from Jennie.

SHAPE Free Cooking Classes Return

Mark you calendar now for Tuesday, October 28th. SHAPE will be simmering up some great ideas for hearty winter soups.

Come to Meadow View to learn how to make Fish Chowder,  Thai Chicken Soup, Tuscan White Bean Soup, Mushroom Farro, Miso Soup and our Bethel Nutrition Services favorite Harvest Soup.

Women’s Self-Defense Workshops

defenseJoin in the free classes of fun and empowering instruction. Women ages 13 and older will learn how to prevent self-defense situations before they start, and how to create space to escape. The moves taught will be easy to learn and highly effective.

Teaching these self-defense workshops are Ryan and Jenna Kelly, women’s self-defense instructors for Northwest Martial Arts and the University of Oregon. They have taught workshops for many organizations across the country. All women are invited and there is no cost, so family and friends are encouraged to attend.

One Step At A Time

Join SHAPE’s Walk/Run group on Thursdays from 4:15-5:00. The group is led by Prairie Mountain teacher Alison Dodd and meets at Prairie Mountain weekly. All levels of fitness are taking part. Email Alison with your questions.


SHAPE Basketball Is Back

SHAPEBasketballBasketball season is fast approaching and it’s time to hoop it up with your Bethel co-workers. Join the coed games for a complete workout and take home incentives like coffee and subway gift cards.

Drop-in SHAPE Basketball is at Meadow View on the first and third Mondays of the month, between 4:15-5:30. Contact Pat McGillivray with any questions.


Staff Pedometer Challenge

SHAPE has purchased a number of pedometers for a district-wide challenge. SHAPE Coordinator Nicole Zwink will be working with the SHAPE champion at your school or site. Watch for a date to begin your site’s pedometer challenge.


Weight Watchers Update

Each Tuesday Weight Watchers will be meeting in the Willamette High School Getaway room. Weigh in starts at 4:00. If you are planning on joining remember that Classified employees with OEBB insurance need to call the Weight Watchers office for a voucher. You we welcome to the meeting next Tuesday even if you don’t have your voucher yet. Open Enrollment is for the first 3 meetings, which means that you have until October 21st to come to the meeting and get signed up.

SHAPE Update: Checking In

Bethel Weight Watchers Begins

SHAPE exercise classes are already underway (check the schedule here), and the first meeting of the new session of Weight Watchers for Bethel staff also begins Tuesday, October 7.

Classified staff and Bethel employees with OEBB insurance should call the Weight Watchers office for a voucher to cover the cost. Even those without a voucher are encouraged to attend, as the first three meetings are Open Enrollment, allowing until October 21 to get signed up.

Meetings take place in the Willamette High School Getaway Room, with weigh-ins starting at 4:00.

Back by popular demand and coming soon…the first SHAPE Healthy Cooking class of the school year. Learn how to make a healthy, hearty and tasty soup.

Workout Videos

SHAPE is interested in purchasing workout videos for staff to use. Let us know which videos are your favorite. SHAPE would like to provide the videos at each school, making them available to all Bethel staff.
