READ-A-THON!!!
I hope you are involved in your child’s read-a-thon! This is a win-win for your child’s growth in reading and for our school! We really appreciate the opportunities our PTO provides through their tireless fundraising! Our field trip to OMSI is made possible by this work. I hope you and your child are supporting their efforts and reading lots!

About the Event
Read-read-read-a-thon
Prairie Mountain School celebrates and rewards every child’s reading efforts! Our read-a-thon presents an engaging fundraising and educational opportunity for our school. The Read-a-thon fosters positive reading habits, promotes literacy and financially supports our school. Prizes are given to the classrooms in each grade that read and collect the most. We all win by encouraging our children to read, read, and read!
When is it?
Starts May 1st and Ends May 14th…all forms and pledges due May 17th
How does it work?
Students log how often they read during the read-a-thon period, about two weeks. Parents, friends, family and corporations make pledges that directly support the PTO programs. We encourage all students to collect pledges for their reading, though it is not required to participate; however proceeds go directly to Prairie Mountain School.
Who participates?
All students, even those too young to read, parents, grandparents, older siblings, and friends can read to small children and record the pages for them.
What kinds of materials count?
Students can read anything: novels, textbooks, journals, magazine articles, newspapers. Our goal is to get everyone reading!
Puppet Project
The puppet heads are looking great! Some are still not fully complete because we are so busy with other activities, it is hard to squeeze in the time to complete them. However, they WILL be coming home for clothes as soon as possible.
Math Learning is a Blast!
Check out my favorites on the link sidebar to the left! These make math learning fun!
My math class will be focusing on word problems to help us pass the Oregon State Tests! Additionally, students will need to practice their Rocket Math nightly. The math links offer a fun way to improve fluency with basic facts!!
Online Writing
Our password has changed …when you log on to do some writing the username is still ann.burgess, but the password is now “4thgradebunch” as of 6 p.m. on Monday, March 5th! Additionally, many students have their own “Bethel Docs” account with their own username and password. Ask your child to show you. Final draft writing assignments look great when word-processed on Bethel Docs and there is no need to print them!
