This first week students started their year by working together as engineers, in groups and as a class, to design, draft, and build a protective prototype device for some very precious cargo – eggs!

Students were given the task of generating a plan based on limited resources and a finite imaginary budget of $5 to successfully protect an egg during its plummet to earth!

After days of working on building and rebuilding, students from all three 5th grade classes gathered together Friday afternoon to drop those eggs! In a heated competition for the Golden Egg trophy, Room 31 took first place with 4 out of 4 teams’ eggs successfully surviving impact!! 100% Success! Congratulations to all the engineers of 5th grade, you should be proud of your designs! Below are just a few of the photos from our process.
