What is the BEAR Room?

As the former Title I Reading Specialist here at Irving, I was often asked, “What is the BEAR Room?”

BEAR stands for “Be Excited About Reading”, something that we hope all of our Irving families feel every day. Our school-wide Title I program serves K-5 students in the BEAR Room who need extra instructional support to meet their academic goals in the areas of reading and literacy. The BEAR Room is located in Room 16 in the K-1 pod under the direction of Liz Johnson, our Title I Reading Specialist.

If your child seems to be struggling to master early literacy or reading skills I may be in touch with you to recommend they participate in our Title I program in the BEAR Room. The targeted instruction your child would receive in small groups, with highly trained staff, can often provide the extra boost s/he needs to achieve her/his personal best.

Please feel free to contact Liz by email [liz.johnson@bethel.k12.or.us] or phone at (541) 688-2620 ext. 2408 if you have any questions about your child’s progress in the BEAR Room throughout the year.
