Music Stands Refurbishing!

The very first day of Spring Break, we had some awesome volunteers from the First Church of the Nazarene (the same folks who make Project Hope happen every year) come by and join some of our students- who together spent about 2 hours fixing up our music stands! They all got a good cleaning, tightening, fresh coat of black paint, AND a new Cascade logo! They look great, and we’re so thankful to Pastor Kurtis Strunk and his team šŸ™‚

Concerts of the Month(s): April-June

Hello Cascade Music Families!
This is later than I was hoping it would be, but attached is a list of some recommended band- and choir-related
concerts coming up. I would especially recommend the U of O concert at the Hult Center- it includes choirs, band,
and orchestra, and includes the top musicians of the School of Music (June 2nd).
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

April-June Concerts

Bethel Choir and Band Festivals!

Recently the Cascade music program has been on three field trips, two of which were to festivals celebrating the great music happening right here in Bethel! Our students did a great job representing Cascade, both with their music and their respectful behavior. Enjoy some pictures below!

A clinic during the Bethel Choir Festival- some brave Cascade students represented us on stage for a demo!

We enjoyed a great performance by the WHS Top Notchers!

Dr. Rodney Dorsey (Director of Bands, University of Oregon) during a clinic with Advanced Band, to prepare for the Bethel Band Festival.

Our combined Intermediate and Advanced Bands at the Bethel Band Festival- we were 1 of 5 bands (about 400 students total!) playing together in the WHS gym!

Calendar Updates

First of all, we have a date for the Bethel Choir Festival- Tuesday, January 23rd. This will be a trip for all choir students, grades 6-8.

The next trip is the Bethel Band Festival on February 15th, for all 7th and 8th grade band students. Both events will take place at Willamette HS.

Here is a link to the online, shared Google Doc version of the calendar. You can also download one from the Documents page. Hard copies are also available in the music room.

I’ll be sending home permission forms and more specific information as we get closer, as well as looking for chaperones!

Fall Concerts – Videos and Photos

Thank you for coming out to support the music students at the band and choir concerts! If you would like to hear something again, or share the concert with someone who was not able to attend, here are some ways to do that:

Please note: These videos are unlisted, meaning they will NOT come up in a YouTube search. In order to share them, you need to share the exact link.

Pictures: There are albums for each concert on my Shutterfly Share site, linked here. They were taken by the wonderful Mr. Stiffler. You can purchase them through the Shutterfly site, or you can simply email me and I would be happy to send you a copy of a particular picture.

Thank you for your support!

Concerts of the Month: December

The holiday season is a popular time for musical performances, and here are two websites you can check out for local shows happening this month (including tonight!):

1) UO School of Music Events: http://music.uoregon.edu/events
I would highly recommend the University Singers/Chamber Choir concert tomorrow night as well as the Gospel Ensembles concert on Sunday (these often sell out because they’re super fun- buy ahead of time!). Both concerts will also be live-streamed on the website- free concert at home!

2) The Shedd Institute: http://theshedd.org/
Tonight is the opening of one of my all-time favorite musicals, Singing in the Rain. They have performances all this weekend and next. The Jazz Kings also have shows running from the 6th through the 13th, featuring vocalist Shirley Andress and an excellent jazz quintet.

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list. There is a ton of great music happening all over! These are just some suggestions I have based on price, quality, and genre. If you know of a great future show coming up, please let me know and Iā€™d be happy to add it to the list for the next month.

I cannot personally guarantee or give super specific information about these events, but am just suggesting you consider them. If you have any general questions, however, please let me know.

Concerts of the Month: November…ish

This is the first in what I’m planning on making a monthly post. There is SO MUCH awesome live music happening in Eugene, and students are HUGELY benefited from hearing high quality performances. So, each month I’m hoping to send home an email (and post info here) with links to/information about a handful of concerts coming up the in next month or so that cover band, choir, classical, and jazz, with the hopes that you might consider having an evening out that will help your young musician to grow.

Happy Summer! Info. for next year

I hope you all have a wonderful summer! My husband and I are working at a band camp and traveling to Europe; I look forward to seeing you all again in September and hearing about your summer adventures!

Some information for next year:

  1. There will be a NEW zero period class!! We will be combining Jazz Band and Vox Novus as one “class” (though we’ll rehearse separately- more info to come) that will actually count as a Cascade MS class. It will be from 7:45-8:30 every school day. More specific information will be emailed home to those currently in Jazz Band/Vox Novus. Auditions will be held for new members for both groups in September.
  2. We have dates for next year! Not quite all of them, but all the concerts and many festivals are already scheduled. Check out the link here: CMS Music Calendar 2017-18.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I will be checking school email occasionally over the summer. See you in the Fall! <3 Mrs. Boorman

Band Pops Concert!

Thanks to those of you who joined us for the pops concert last night! All the bands all performed beautifully.

I just purchased a new video camera, and am still working out some of the kinks; the picture is a bit blurry and far away… but, we have recordings! (Note: The videos are unlisted, so they will not come up in a search on YouTube. You must share the exact link.)
