Summer Music Camps!

Here are just a few of the local offerings for summer music camps! I can not speak personally for each of them, but they are all organized by reputable, high quality establishments. All Cascade music students are eligible for a $100 scholarship towards a summer camp. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Band:

1) Northwest Band Camps: This awesome camp is on the coast, at Twin Rocks (just north of Tillamook). It’s an action-packed week of ensemble rehearsal, sectional time with instrument specialists, recreation, and more. Students also have the opportunity to try choir or jazz. I’m also biased, because I’ll be directing a band during the second week of camp 🙂 The price tag is high, but I believe it to be worth it. Details can be found at: http://nwbandcamps.com/ Please note that they have a payment plan option, and remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.

2) Mid-Valley Band Camp: I have not personally been involved with this camp, but I know several who are involved, and they are top quality music educators. This camp is much more affordable, however, lodging is not provided; if you have a place for your student to stay in Albany or a way to transport, this sounds like an excellent experience. Details can be found at: www.nmla.net/mvbc.html Please remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.

3) University of Oregon Summer Camps: There are multiple camps at the UO School of Music, that include an option to stay in the dorms. These are camps for concert band, jazz, and marching/leadership. These camps are for high school students, so only those currently in 8th grade would be eligible. Information can be found here: http://musiccamps.uoregon.edu/ Please note that they have scholarship options, and remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.

Choir:

1) Oregon Children’s Choir Summer Camps:
There are multiple camps offered by this wonderful,
local organization; I would draw your attention to the HS/MS Vocal Camp, which is probably the most applicable. Information is here:
now.html. Please remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.
2) Oregon State Choir Camp:
This camp is for students 14-19, so would mostly apply to our current 8th graders. OSU (for all it’s not the ducks…) has an excellent choral music program, and this camps sounds most excellent. Information is here: http://liberalarts.oregonstate.edu/school-arts-and-communication/sac-academy/summer-programs/precollege-programs/choir-camp.
Please remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.

Visitors!

We’ve had a couple of exciting days here in the Cascade band and choir rooms! On Tuesday, 3/21 the Brass Quintet “Teen Angst” came to visit from the University of Oregon. These students performed for ours, and did a short clinic with our brass players in all three band classes.

Then this morning, Thursday 3/23, the award-winning TopNotchers choir from Willamette HS, under the direction of Ms. Katie Reuter, came to visit Vox Novus during rehearsal! They worked with us on the Star Spangled Banner, and both groups performed for each other. It was an inspiring, uplifting morning!

WHS Marching Band: 8th Grade Night!

Calling all 8th grade band students!

The fantastic Willamette HS Marching Band invites you to play with them at the Homecoming game this Friday, October 7th! This is a great opportunity to see what it’s like to be a member of this exciting ensemble at a real live game. Interested students can attend rehearsal this Thursday 10/6 from 5:15-6:45 at the WHS baseball field to prepare for the pregame performance. If students are not able to attend this rehearsal, they may still participate!

On Friday, all interested students will meet at the WHS band room at 6 pm for pizza (free, provided). They will then march to the stadium. Students who were at rehearsal the night before will join the band for pregame; those who did not will watch from the stands. All will perform pep tunes during the game, and watch the WHSMB perform their halftime show.

Please RSVP to the director, Mr. Casey Crane, at casey.crane@bethel.k12.or.us. All this information (and more) is contained in the attache document (below). If your student plans to attend, please let me know if you have any questions, and arrive with the registration sheet (last page of the document below) filled out. Copies can also be found in the CMS band room. Hope to see you there!
