Summer Music Camps!

Hello, Cascade Music Families!

Summer is just around the corner, and I wanted to share just a few of the local offerings for summer music camps. I can not speak personally for each of them, but they are all organized by reputable, high quality establishments. All Cascade music students are eligible for a $100 scholarship towards a summer camp. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Band:

1) Northwest Band Camps: This awesome camp is on the coast, at Twin Rocks (just north of Tillamook). It’s an action-packed week of ensemble rehearsal, sectional time with instrument specialists, recreation, and more. Students also have the opportunity to try choir or jazz. The price tag is high, but I believe it to be worth it. Details can be found at: http://nwbandcamps.com/ Please note that they have a payment plan option, and remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.

2) Mid-Valley Band Camp: I have not personally been involved with this camp, but I know several who are involved, and they are top quality music educators. This camp is much more affordable, however, lodging is not provided; if you have a place for your student to stay in Albany or a way to transport, this sounds like an excellent experience. Details can be found at: www.nmla.net/mvbc.html Please remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.

3) University of Oregon Summer Camps: There are multiple camps at the UO School of Music, that include an option to stay in the dorms. These are camps for concert band, jazz, and marching/leadership. These camps are for high school students, so only those currently in 8th grade would be eligible. Information can be found here: http://musiccamps.uoregon.edu/ Please note that they have scholarship options, and remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.

Choir:

1) Oregon Children’s Choir Summer Camps:
There are multiple camps offered by this wonderful, local organization here in Eugene; I would draw your attention to the HS/MS Vocal Camp, which is probably the most applicable. Information is here: http://www.oregonchildrenschoir.com/calendar.html. Please remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.

2) Oregon State Choir Camp:
This camp is for students 14-19, so would mostly apply to our current 8th graders. OSU (for all it’s not the ducks…) in Corvallis has an excellent choral music program, and this camps sounds great. Information is here: http://liberalarts.oregonstate.edu/school-arts-and-communication/sac-academy/summer-programs/precollege-programs/choir-camp. Please remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.

If you have any questions, and/or are interested in the CMS scholarship towards a camp, please let me know! Once I go on maternity leave this will likely be handled by our office manager, Mrs. Sue Thompson. We will need proof of payment and registration for the scholarship reimbursement.

Concerts of the Month(s): April-June

Hello Cascade Music Families!
This is later than I was hoping it would be, but attached is a list of some recommended band- and choir-related
concerts coming up. I would especially recommend the U of O concert at the Hult Center- it includes choirs, band,
and orchestra, and includes the top musicians of the School of Music (June 2nd).
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

April-June Concerts

Bethel Choir and Band Festivals!

Recently the Cascade music program has been on three field trips, two of which were to festivals celebrating the great music happening right here in Bethel! Our students did a great job representing Cascade, both with their music and their respectful behavior. Enjoy some pictures below!

A clinic during the Bethel Choir Festival- some brave Cascade students represented us on stage for a demo!

We enjoyed a great performance by the WHS Top Notchers!

Dr. Rodney Dorsey (Director of Bands, University of Oregon) during a clinic with Advanced Band, to prepare for the Bethel Band Festival.

Our combined Intermediate and Advanced Bands at the Bethel Band Festival- we were 1 of 5 bands (about 400 students total!) playing together in the WHS gym!

Calendar Updates

First of all, we have a date for the Bethel Choir Festival- Tuesday, January 23rd. This will be a trip for all choir students, grades 6-8.

The next trip is the Bethel Band Festival on February 15th, for all 7th and 8th grade band students. Both events will take place at Willamette HS.

Here is a link to the online, shared Google Doc version of the calendar. You can also download one from the Documents page. Hard copies are also available in the music room.

I’ll be sending home permission forms and more specific information as we get closer, as well as looking for chaperones!
