You’re probably seen these snazzy new sweatshirts around! They were designed by our inaugural Music Council, and we think they look pretty great 🙂 Sweatshirts will likely be re-ordered every year, and there may even be a few extras for sale at the Winter Concert, December 18th.
For the first time, the Cascade choirs went on a tour! We visited three local retirement homes, and performed for residents. The students did a great job, and our audience was very appreciative 🙂
Happy New School Year!
My resolution is to be a lot better about updating the blog this year 🙂
Attached is a copy of the Calendar of Events that will go home with students on September 4th with their class syllabus. The calendar will always be available online via this link.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Hello, Cascade Music Families!
Summer is just around the corner, and I wanted to share just a few of the local offerings for summer music camps. I can not speak personally for each of them, but they are all organized by reputable, high quality establishments. All Cascade music students are eligible for a $100 scholarship towards a summer camp. Please let me know if you have any questions.
1) Northwest Band Camps: This awesome camp is on the coast, at Twin Rocks (just north of Tillamook). It’s an action-packed week of ensemble rehearsal, sectional time with instrument specialists, recreation, and more. Students also have the opportunity to try choir or jazz. The price tag is high, but I believe it to be worth it. Details can be found at: http://nwbandcamps.com/ Please note that they have a payment plan option, and remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.
2) Mid-Valley Band Camp: I have not personally been involved with this camp, but I know several who are involved, and they are top quality music educators. This camp is much more affordable, however, lodging is not provided; if you have a place for your student to stay in Albany or a way to transport, this sounds like an excellent experience. Details can be found at: www.nmla.net/mvbc.html Please remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.
3) University of Oregon Summer Camps: There are multiple camps at the UO School of Music, that include an option to stay in the dorms. These are camps for concert band, jazz, and marching/leadership. These camps are for high school students, so only those currently in 8th grade would be eligible. Information can be found here: http://musiccamps.uoregon.edu/ Please note that they have scholarship options, and remember that all CMS students who register for a summer camp can have a $100 scholarship from the CMS music program.
Our Spring Choir Concert is up on YouTube! Click here for the link: https://youtu.be/QH591Bt127o.
Please note: concert videos are always posted as unlisted, so you need the exact link to share them.
The video camera had some technical difficulties at the band concert; I’m hoping to have that video up soon. Stay tuned!
Recently the Cascade music program has been on three field trips, two of which were to festivals celebrating the great music happening right here in Bethel! Our students did a great job representing Cascade, both with their music and their respectful behavior. Enjoy some pictures below!
First of all, we have a date for the Bethel Choir Festival- Tuesday, January 23rd. This will be a trip for all choir students, grades 6-8.
The next trip is the Bethel Band Festival on February 15th, for all 7th and 8th grade band students. Both events will take place at Willamette HS.
Here is a link to the online, shared Google Doc version of the calendar. You can also download one from the Documents page. Hard copies are also available in the music room.
I’ll be sending home permission forms and more specific information as we get closer, as well as looking for chaperones!
Thank you for coming out to support the music students at the band and choir concerts! If you would like to hear something again, or share the concert with someone who was not able to attend, here are some ways to do that:

Please note: These videos are unlisted, meaning they will NOT come up in a YouTube search. In order to share them, you need to share the exact link.
Pictures: There are albums for each concert on my Shutterfly Share site, linked here. They were taken by the wonderful Mr. Stiffler. You can purchase them through the Shutterfly site, or you can simply email me and I would be happy to send you a copy of a particular picture.
Thank you for your support!
