McKenzie Room 212

Dear 5th Grade Families,

The students of Room 212 earned a party, and after a vote they’ve decided to have an electronic/toy party in the classroom.  The party will be taking place the afternoon of, Friday, October 20th.  Students are allowed to bring in appropriate hand-held electronic devices and/or toys.  Items should be stored in backpacks or bags until the party begins and be put away afterward.  Playing with items outside of the party time could result in losing the privilege of using them.  Please encourage students to only bring items they know they can keep track of.  Malabon Elementary can not be responsible for lost or damaged items.

Thanks,

Caleb McKenzie

Hello 5th Grade Families!

Hello 5th Grade Families,

Coming home today with your 5th grader, you’ll find a Late/Missing Assignment form. Please go over the assignment form with your student, then sign it so your 5th grader can bring it back for a Good Job Ticket. I will be working with students next week, helping them catch up on any missing work. Before the end of the day, we will have read this message in class, and all students will understand the expectation of getting the signed assignment form turned back in to me on Monday.

Also, the assignment that’s been the most missed is the September Reading Log. Everyone was supposed to read 250 minutes last month, 10 minutes per day, from the first day of school until the last day of September. This month, October, we’re reading 310 minutes, again 10 minutes per day, every day of the month.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to get back to me!

Thanks for your support!

Caleb McKenzie

Hello 5th Grade Families,

Just want to let everybody know about two things that happen at the beginning of every month, from now till June.

For one, student reading logs will be due on the first day of every month, and new ones will come home to be completed. Students are responsible for reading, on average, ten minutes per day, every day of the month, weekends and holidays included. So, if a 5th grader reads for half an hour at home, or at grandma’s house, or on a car ride across town, they have just completed three days of reading!

Also, your 5th grader will be bringing home a Missing/Late Assignment & Test Note, usually sent the first week of each month. If they have everything in, it will say so. If there is missing work, it will also say so. This form is for communication with families, and if you have any questions, I ask that you contact me at your earliest convenience. My email address is:

Thanks!

Hello 5th Grade Families,

Tuesday, November 22nd, we’re visiting the Leaburg Dam. We’ve been learning about different power sources, including hydroelectric energy, and our students will get a first-hand idea of how we power our city of Eugene! Also, due to the length of the bus ride, students are allowed to bring healthy snacks, electronics, a book, etc.

We’ll be gone from 8:30 – 12:00 (lunch at school)

The field trip will mainly be outdoors, so please make sure your student is dressed for warmth and weather.

Thanks!

Hello 5th grade families,

Tuesday, November 15th, we’re visiting the Hult Center for the Eugene Youth Concert. We’ll be learning about instruments and orchestras along with listening to great music! The busses will leave Malabon at 9:30 A.M. and will return at approximately 12:00 P.M. We’ll be eating lunch at school after we return.
