McKenzie Room 212

Hello 5th Grade Families,

Parent/Teacher Conferences start tomorrow. If you haven’t yet signed up for a conference, and would like to set up a time, please email me ASAP so we can get you on the list.

Also, my preference is that your 5th grader attend the conference with us. I think it’s important, at this age, that students begin taking part in their scholastic planning. This is ultimately up to you, but will become more regular as they advance through middle school.

See you soon!

Caleb McKenzie

Hello 5th Grade Families!

Parent-Teacher Conference forms went home on Tuesday, the 14th. Many have returned filled out. Thanks! Please remember, the sooner I receive them, the better the chances are of getting a particular time slot.

Also, if students have access to a usb flash drive, please have them bring it to school for our research project. This isn’t mandatory, and students can save their work to the desktop, but the computer lab is shared by all classes and sometimes student work has disappeared…

Thanks,

Caleb McKenzie

Hello 5th grade families,

Students were given Missing/Late Test/Assignment forms today to bring home and get signed. Please review these forms with your student. Any missing work on these forms needs to be completed and turned in for a grade.

Also, because many families weren’t receiving them, I’ve begun mailing home behavior tickets I’ve received from the office instead of sending them home with individual students.

Furthermore, Malabon 5th grade, along with other schools worldwide, is going to attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records this Thursday in cup stacking! Please ask your student all about it!

Thanks,

Caleb McKenzie

Hello 5th Grade Families!

The Do-Re-Me Choir Concert is happening in two weeks!

Please remember, 1st and 2nd grade are on Tuesday the 14th at 7:00 PM.

4th and 5th are on Wednesday the 15th at 7:00 PM.

3rd grade can go on either date!

Thanks and see you there!

Hello 5th Grade Families,

This Friday, October 27th, we’ll be kicking off the Malabon Harvest Party with the 5th grade Thriller performance! Please have your student here by 6:20, as we’re starting the dance at 6:30.

Thanks!

Dear 5th Grade Families,

The students of Room 212 earned a party, and after a vote they’ve decided to have an electronic/toy party in the classroom.  The party will be taking place the afternoon of, Friday, October 20th.  Students are allowed to bring in appropriate hand-held electronic devices and/or toys.  Items should be stored in backpacks or bags until the party begins and be put away afterward.  Playing with items outside of the party time could result in losing the privilege of using them.  Please encourage students to only bring items they know they can keep track of.  Malabon Elementary can not be responsible for lost or damaged items.

Thanks,

Caleb McKenzie

Hello 5th Grade Families!

Picture day is Wednesday, October 18th! Students brought forms home on Thursday the 11th. If you didn’t receive one, we have extras in the classroom and office!

Thanks!

Caleb McKenzie

Hello 5th Grade Families,

Coming home today with your 5th grader, you’ll find a Late/Missing Assignment form. Please go over the assignment form with your student, then sign it so your 5th grader can bring it back for a Good Job Ticket. I will be working with students next week, helping them catch up on any missing work. Before the end of the day, we will have read this message in class, and all students will understand the expectation of getting the signed assignment form turned back in to me on Monday.

Also, the assignment that’s been the most missed is the September Reading Log. Everyone was supposed to read 250 minutes last month, 10 minutes per day, from the first day of school until the last day of September. This month, October, we’re reading 310 minutes, again 10 minutes per day, every day of the month.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to get back to me!

Thanks for your support!

Caleb McKenzie

Hello 5th Grade Families,

Just want to let everybody know about two things that happen at the beginning of every month, from now till June.

For one, student reading logs will be due on the first day of every month, and new ones will come home to be completed. Students are responsible for reading, on average, ten minutes per day, every day of the month, weekends and holidays included. So, if a 5th grader reads for half an hour at home, or at grandma’s house, or on a car ride across town, they have just completed three days of reading!

Also, your 5th grader will be bringing home a Missing/Late Assignment & Test Note, usually sent the first week of each month. If they have everything in, it will say so. If there is missing work, it will also say so. This form is for communication with families, and if you have any questions, I ask that you contact me at your earliest convenience. My email address is:

caleb.mckenzie@bethel.k12.or.us

Thanks!

Hello 5th Graders and Families,

Tomorrow is going to be our class nominations for 5th grade class president! Then, on Friday, we’ll be voting! If your student is planning on running, please work with them at home on their speech, volume, posture and confidence!

Thanks,

Caleb McKenzie
