When you plan your weekly theme for January, you certainly hope for more cooperation from the weather. Our theme was SNOWMAN and our story of the week was There Was A Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow. Our core words of the week were WHO and SOME. We asked lots of WHO questions this week, like “Who do you love?” You can ask your child WHO questions, too! SOME is easy to work into daily routines when you ask your child if they want some ….help, cookies, movie time….the possibilities are endless! Here’s the link for this week’s playlist, full of new words, the read aloud version of our story, snow sculpting contests, a snowman song and even a snowman Wallace and Grommet Cartoon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMhFZVqQRCI&list=PLROC0x_vQTIN5vgXwzYxQhwkj6b8LOs7P Will we see snow this winter?
This week, we talked about hibernation and all of the animals that rest during the winter months. Our book of the week was Bear Snores On, by Karma Wilson. We used individual speech buttons, so everyone could read along with the story. Our two universal core words were IN and ON. These are really easy words to use with your child every day! “Put socks ON” “Milk is IN the fridge” You can find our weekly vocabulary video, read aloud version of the story, hibernation songs and a video about real animals that hibernate at this YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXp4g2Rnghg&list=PLROC0x_vQTIOgf315tNeG5sb3K-vZKlPy
We hope that your new year is off to a great start! Talking Time began the year with Polar Bears. (Still hoping for some winter in Eugene) We read Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? by Bill Martin, Jr. and Eric Carle. Our words of the week were What do you…which make a great start to lots of questions. You can use the picture below to make up your own “what do you…?” questions with your child. Here is the link to our vocabulary words, songs of the week, a read-aloud version of the book and some polar bear trivia. Please bear with (no pun intended) my gruff voice on the vocabulary video. It was from last year’s bout of pneumonia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENJoyXBaPsw&list=PLROC0x
