Mrs. McElravy

A GREAT first day! I am truly looking forward to working with this group.

I sent home letters about Math 8 and Algebra today (I also emailed home the letters and you can find them on this blog under the Math 8 and Algebra tabs).

Algebra:

4-3A Equations and Inequalities

HW: W.S. I can solve equations with variable terms on both sides

Math 8:

Writing Equations Using Symbols (Have your student show you some word-form equations from lesson 1 and how they changed them to symbol form)

For more practice visit this link: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/on-sixth-grade-math/on-patterning-algebra/on-variables-expressions/e/writing_expressions_2

Algebra:

Reviewed for test tomorrow (first grade of the new trimester)

Math 8:

State Benchmark Problem Solving (accuracy score will be recorded on Home Access Center)

Practice test for tomorrow’s Pythagorean Theorem Test was handed out in class today.

Algebra:

Test Thursday…and we are busy preparing! Ask your student solve a  one-variable multi-step equation for you.

Math 8:

Test Thursday over Pythagorean Theorem. Can your student tell you the theorem?

Algebra:

4-2A Algebra Tiles

HW: 4-2 A W.S. (modeled with Algebra tiles)

Math 8:

Lesson 14T-Perfect Squares (Ask your student what a perfect square is…or what a square root is?)

Algebra:

4-1C Making Connections

HW: Pg 231 #1-12 (one graph needed)

Math 8:

Lesson 9: Basic Properties of Similarity (wrap up)

Ask your student about the “hot potato” activity we did in class today to prepare for our test on Friday!

Algebra:

4-1A Solving Equations Using Number Sense

HW: Pg 221 #4-10, 13-18, 21

Math 8:

Lesson 9: Basic Properties of Similarity

Test Friday (retakes will not be offered for this particular test). Test covers sequences, that we have been writing since September. Lesson 8 and Lesson 9 are great lessons to study from when preparing for this test. We have spent several weeks preparing and will spend the majority of this week preparing.

Algebra:

3-2C Making Connections

Pg 208 #1-2, 5-18, 20

Math 8:
