Turning our Desks Around!

Hello Fifth grade Families…

We won’t be able to greet you as fifth grade parents much longer. Your child is fast approaching their first year in Middle school. Wow! With that in mind, we’d like to remind you that your students will be walking over to ShastaMiddle Schoolthis Friday, May 4th. They will tour classrooms with 6th, 7th, and 8th grade volunteers, and generally get acquainted with the school.  We are looking forward to the visit. With Middle School in mind we are going to introduce a change in fifth grade. Starting on Monday, May 7th, WE ARE TURNING THE STUDENT DESKS AROUND! Meaning, that the fifth graders will no longer have access to the inside of their desks; they will be working out of their backpacks. We are doing this to help prepare the students for the Middle School experience. Please make sure your student has their backpack every day as they leave home for the day.

Math

My goal is to help your student become proficient in math. In order to be successful, students often need help on take-home assignments. This page is designed to help students and parents review concepts to assist with studying and homework. Each math unit has its own page on this site devoted to the concepts learned within that unit.

The homework expectations for Rm. 54 are as follows:

Assignment Sheet: filled out and signed by a guardian daily

Read at Home: 20 minutes per day and verified by a guardian signature

Math: one lesson sheet per day, Monday through Thursday, and one math facts drill* sheet per week, due Friday (or the last day of the week). *Students showing mastery of math facts are excused from this assignment.

Spelling: one double-sided sheet assigned on Monday and due on Friday (or the last day of the week)

Unfinished classroom assignments: as needed (see daily assignment sheet)

Students are given some time in class each day to begin homework assignments and receive help. However, students are not permitted to hand in homework early and are required to take it home each night for parent verification, even if they finish their work in class.

Excuses like the following will not be accepted…
