News for October 3, 2019

Bike safety is over and we are back to a normal schedule.  This week did bring some new activities, though.  We had our first visit from Ms. Rachel, our speech language pathologist here at Irving.  She will be leading our class in lessons revolving around executive functioning- in simpler terms, she will be working with our students in the areas of organization, planning, staying focused, monitoring oneself, and many other important life skills.  We also had our first garden lesson!  The school to garden team will visit our class every other Thursday in the fall and spring.

Tomorrow is our big trip to Newport!  Don’t forget, we leave promptly at 7:40 AM, and we  ask that everyone be at school by 7:25.  We will meet in our classroom.  Please make sure kids have something to eat and use the bathroom before arriving at school.  There will be limited opportunities on the bus ride for bathroom breaks.  If your child is bringing a lunch from home, don’t forget it!  Remember to mark it clearly so there is no confusion.  Also important is layered clothing…and a jacket.  There is rain in the forecast! Finally, we will be arriving back at Irving around 4:15 and students will need transportation home if they usually ride a bus.  It will be a great day!!

We already have another trip planned!  On Monday, October 14 we will visit the Bethel Farm.  Please look for the letter in this Friday folder for more information.  If you have already returned the bottom portion, no need to send it in again.

IMPORTANT!!  It is time for kids to earn their Chromebook Licenses.  Part of this process is proving in class that they can be responsible, and follow the guidelines for using Chromebooks at school.  The other part is the signed contract, which needs to be signed by both student and parent.  I have enclosed another in this Friday folder if your child has not earned their license yet.

Thanks to all who participated in the Roll and Walk to school this week!  It was fun to see so many students participating in the way that worked for them.
