Music Club Field Trip Update
To all Music Club members and parents:
Since the Music Club field trip was canceled as a result of the snow day on March 22, I am working to re-schedule our day at the festival, Putters and nursing homes. I will keep you posted here and let you know as soon as I do when we are going to be able to go. We are working as district music specialists to re-schedule the Choral Festival at WHS. Thanks for your patience!
5th Graders Shine in Last Program
Back in late January, the 5th graders gave a wonderful performance of the program “From Sea to Shining Sea: A Road Trip Across America”. Five college students decided to take a road trip together after graduation and had a great musical adventure on the way. Every 5th grade student had a special instrumental part as well as some special dance and movement parts.
Students play the blues on the recorder as they enjoy a stop in New Orleans, the birthplace of American blues and jazz.
No trip would be complete without a stop in Hawaii for a Hukilau!
We enjoyed learning about each of the 50 states, but to us, Oregon is the best of them all!

Holiday Market Performance
Our music club performance at the Holiday Market is coming up on Saturday, December 10th. Students, please remember to wear your new green shirt with a pair of jeans. Please be at the school at 9:00 ready to warm-up and load.
The performance starts at 10:00 on the main stage at Holiday Market. We’re so lucky to have a pianist and flautist for one of our songs. We’ll come back to the school by 11:20 for cookies, hot chocolate, games and caroling.
See you Saturday!
Music Club Off and Running
Music Club is in full swing with 45 students learning thebasics of singing, hand drumming and drum circles. Last week, students voted for their President and Vice President (Congratulations, Lauren & Jenna!) and discussed group names and tee-shirt designs. Here are just a couple of photos of them hard at work in the early morning!

Music Club Handbook and Enrollment Form
4th and 5th graders have an opportunity again this year to be a part of an extra-curricular group for music! Last year we called it “Choir”. This year, it’s called “Music Club” because although we will still be singing and using the music purchased for us by the Bethel Education Foundation, the students will get to play a lot more of the classroom percussion, recorders, and will be in charge of creating dances and movements. For those 4th and 5th grade students interested in Music Club (soon to be re-named by the members), there is a handbook and enrollment form available right here: Music Club Page
We rehearse Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 7:45 and will start the morning of Tuesday, September 27th. See you there!
Thank you PTO for the new mural!
Back in May, the PTO agreed to fund the supplies for a mural in the music room. Ms. Manley graciously volunteered the last week of her summer break to help me paint a mural of an instrument tree to fill a large gray space behind the risers. We had a lot of fun piecing it all together. Thanks PTO for all you do for our school!
The finished product is a lot of fun to look at! The instruments grow out of the branches instead of leaves and are arranged on the tree by their orchestral families. We hope students at Meadow View will enjoy this piece for a long time!
The curve of this wall made it difficult to hang anything that would add color to the spot, so the mural was the perfect solution.
Ms. Manley is seen here painting the beginnings of the music tree.
Countdown to the 2011-2012 School Year
Welcome to the Meadow View Music Blog with Mrs. Beese. I’m so excited to be back for a second year at Meadow View! The students and families here are really special and I look forward to working with you again. If you’re new to the blog, be sure to check the links on the left for interesting information about the music program at Meadow View, as well as some links to websites that engage students and families in musical activities.
Very soon, I’ll post this year’s Choir information and pictures of the new music room mural that the PTO graciously funded! Stay tuned………..
