Monthly Archives: December 2019

After getting shut out in quad #1 in his first Bethel quad as a 5th grader six years ago, Owen McCoy swept the top quad in what will be his last one for awhile since his family is moving to Virginia.  Other quad winners for November were: Brian Schartz (Q2); 2-way tie in Quad #3 between Brandon Young and Liam Priest; Benjamin Varro (Q4); Ridic Ferrand (Q5); 2-way tie in Quad #6 between Manny Two Crows and Max Murphy; Jeff Rodine (Q7); Kael Rodine (Q8); and Zeke Howard (Q9).

9 quads competed on November 17th

Quad 1 action with Owen, Will, Jack and Le.

Complete results from the November’s Quads can be found at:
NWSRS results   USCF results

All quads are OSCF qualifiers and NWSRS rated. Quads are also USCF rated when all members of a quad are USCF members.

The next quad is coming up on December 15th from 1:30 to 4:30. Just $10 to enter with the winner of each quad getting $10 and free admission to the next Bethel Quad. Remember if a quad chooses a longer time control, it will likely run later than 4:30.

Send an email to mike.myers@bethel.k12.or.us to reserve a spot. Onsite registration between 12:30 – 1:15.

Chapter 5: Congruent Triangles <= Click here for activity

EQ: What type of triangles have base angles?  Are there other shortcuts to showing triangles congruent?

Know the Base Angles theorem for Isosceles triangles (p252).  SSS (Side-Side-Side) and HL (Hypotenuse Leg) theorem are introduced (p262-264).

Prep work: 5.4-5.5 BAT, SSS and HL

Retake for Ch. 3 Test: Geo Ch3 Review for Retest
Retake should be done by 12/13.

Chapter 5: Congruent Triangles

EQ: Do we really need to show that all three sides and angles are the same to prove triangles are congruent?

SAS (Side-Angle-Side) theorem is introduced (p246-247).  Know what an included angle is (the angle formed by sides).

Prep work: p249(5-18, 25, 26, 29)

Retake for Ch. 3 Test: Geo Ch3 Review for Retest
Retake should be done by 12/13.

Chapter 5: Congruent Triangles

EQ: What does a congruence statement tell you?

Know the Exterior Angle Theorem (p234) and 3rd Angle Theorem (p242).  Also know how to identify congruent parts of polygons from a congruence statement and be able to write one (see examples 1 & 2 starting on p.240).

Prep work: p236(15-18, 25-28, 49-52)  p243(3-10, 17, 18, 22-24)
