WELCOME to SHAPE

SHAPE is a grant-funded program designed to promote and foster health and wellness among Bethel School District employees. SHAPE seeks to address the primary health needs of physical activity, nutrition education and stress management through fun, rewarding and free activities open to all district staff.

Excitement Builds As Mini-Grants Awarded

Staff at Shasta Middle School pick up their new Hydroflasks to begin the school-wide Rethink Your Drink Wellness Challenge.

Seven staff wellness proposals have been funded by SHAPE, bringing a variety of fun challenges and tasty opportunities to staff throughout the school district.

The mini-grants are worth up to $2,000 each, and were judged on these criteria:

  • Lend direct and immediate support to the health and well-being of school staff
  • Probability of effectiveness in improving the health and well-being of school staff
  • Sustainability of the project

Check out all the fun mini-grants on the Mini-Grant page, and start the conversation now about your school or department’s staff health and wellness activity that could be funded with the next SHAPE mini-grant offering.

SHAPE Mini-Grants Offered To Staff

SHAPE, Bethel’s staff health and wellness program, is offering more than $1,000 for individual Bethel schools or departments to implement their own staff health and wellness activity or plan.

Check out these ideas

School staff are talking with each other and developing proposals that meet their school or department’s needs.

Click here to submit your proposal now. The deadline for proposals is the end of the day Monday, March 13.

Extra points will be awarded for proposals that are sustainable beyond the life and funding of the grant, and for the realistic anticipated level of staff participation.

Welcome to Year 4 of the SHAPE grant!

Here’s what’s coming soon for all Bethel staff courtesy of SHAPE, our staff health grant.

Walker Tracker  http://walkertracker.com/
This has become one of our benefits that will stay even when the grant is gone. More than just walking, Walker Tracker is a program that can be personalized through your smart phone. Plan your program, set goals, form teams, challenge others, and much more.

The first official challenge will begin in November, but we will have the site up and running and ready for sign ups before then.

What You Can Do

  • If you are cleaning out your house and come across a Fitness DVD you’d like to donate, it would help us build our Fitness Library.
  • Improving your health this summer doesn’t have to mean changing everything at once. Set realistic and achievable goals and try one change at a time.  Add in a walk 3 times a week or choose a piece of fruit for a snack.  You can change your health for the better if you work on making conscious decisions about what you eat and how you move.

Stay healthy and enjoy your summer…you deserve it!

Healthy Life Schools Challenge Winners

$1,000 Cash Winnings

Kalapuya and Shasta staff have won the high school and middle school levels of the Healthy Life Schools Challenge from PacificSource. Each will receive $1,000 for a healthy initiative at their schools.

  • Shasta will use part of the money to purchase goal incentives to encourage staff to continue using pedometers, which were purchased from Shasta’s last Healthy Life Schools Challenge victory.
  • Kalapuya will be making healthy juices every morning and introduce students to the world of creative juicing.

100 Mile Club

The 100 mile club is officially over for this school year.  However, if you sent your log in yesterday or today it will still be honored.  Close to 90 people reached the 100 mile club at least once and 42 Bethel staff members earned all three of their possible gift cards. You are still welcome to send in your miles to qualify for the 1000 mile club. Next fall the mileage clubs will be bigger and better.

The Survey Says….
