Salmon Watch Field Trip
The 6th grade science classes are currently learning about healthy watersheds, the salmon cycle and man’s impact on salmon migration. We will take a field trip toWhittakerCreek, a tributary of the SiuslawRiver near Mapleton, to witness salmon spawning and to learn more from experts in the field of fish biology, forestry and hydrology.
Science Period 2: Monday, November 14, 8:30 am-2:00 pm
Science Period 3: Tuesday, November 15, 8:30 am-2:00 pm
This trip will not be cancelled due to the weather, so please make sure your child dresses appropriately for varying weather conditions. Water proof shoes and rain gear are highly recommended. Please pack a healthy lunch.
Parent and adult volunteers are crucial to this trip. They are needed to help make this learning experience a positive and safe one. Please consider being an adult helper on this great field trip.
Water Quality Field Trip
The 6th grade science classes are currently learning about water quality and indicators of a stream’s health. To give an opportunity to see this knowledge in its real life application, both classes will field trip to a designated place on the Amazon bike path to test the water quality in Amazon Creek. Our data findings will be added to a district database that all district 6th grade classes contribute to. We will test our “piece of the stream” twice this school year, once in the fall, and again in the spring.
Students will be organized into “Stream Teams” and will be charged with carrying out important data collection tasks. We practice and review all procedures at school well in advance of our field trip day.
Our fall trip to Amazon Creek is now scheduled.
Period 2 on Monday, November 1st, 8:30am-9:45am
Period 3 on Tuesday, November 2nd, 8:30am-9:45am
Parent and adult volunteers are needed to help make this learning experience a positive and safe one. If you are available to help us on this date, we’d love to have you.
Field Trip on Thursday, October 13.
We’re going to EWEB’s Chlorination and Filtration Plant at Hayden Bridge (where our city’s drinking water comes from) and to the City of Eugene’s Waste Water Treatment Facility (where our dirty water goes before being released to the Willamette River).
We’ll leave school between 8:40am and 9:00am, and return to school by approximately 1:45pm.
We’ll stop at AltonBakerPark for lunch and recreation, so please pack a lunch. Please let me know if you’d like to order a lunch from our school kitchen.
Parent volunteers are needed. If you can help out on this trip, please let me know.
Thank you,
Pam Brandt
Welcome Parents
Parent night is always a great opportunity for introductions and a quick overview of curriculum and expectations. Tonight, parents will get to follow the schedule of their students, with a first hand look at what their student does daily. We’ll begin in homeroom and move through each class in a very fast 15 minutes. Of couse, we have your students in class for a bit longer.
