Welcome

Greetings and welcome to a new school year at Prairie Mountain. The first weeks of school have gone very well. Students and teachers are getting to know one another and settling into routines. I am looking forward to seeing parents on September 19 at our Back to School Curriculum night. Check back to my blog often, and bookmark the Home Access Center to stay up to date with your assignments and grades.

Welcome Back!

Today was a great opportunity to meet with many of this year’s students and their families. Thank you so much for making the time to come visit. The room is set up, lessons are planned and all I am now waiting for is the “whites of your eyes” and the first day of school. Please save the date, September 11, for our “Back to School Orientation Night”. That’s the time we’ll have the opportunity to share details about 6th grade at Prairie Mountain, the specifics of checking grades online and to answer any questions you might have.
See you Tuesday!

Stock Purchase Activity

One way to see real life application of math is a simulation activity purchasing Stock.  A share represents a “share of ownership” in that company. For this activity, you will choose 3 different companies from which to buy shares.  You are given $300 to spend on stock in each company.  You will record the value of one share of each company’s stock for 5 days.  You will record the change in value of each stock at the end of the day, and calculate your “net worth” at the end of the five days.  You’ll also do a comparison of which stock did the best overall.  Please use cnn.money to choose and follow your stocks.
