KITS Getting Kids Ready For School
It’s comparable to summer school for pre-kindergarten kids. KITS – Kids In Transition to School – is underway at Fairfield Elementary.
A project of the Oregon Social Learning Center in partnership with Bethel School District, KITS has welcomed more than a dozen Bethel children to a school-readiness skills class. The idea is to help selected kids learn what will be expected of them in kindergarten this fall.
They are becoming familiar with school routines such as how a classroom operates, keeping their hands to themselves, proper behavior at school, and learning in a group setting.
In addition, the children’s parents are taking part in study groups to learn how to best support their kids to be successful in school.
The impact of OSLC’s intervention efforts will be studied, with the possibility that KITS could eventually expand to other Bethel schools.
