Tuesday Folders

Each Tuesday, a green, plastic folder will be sent home containing news from the school and corrected schoolwork and homework. Most weeks I will send a classroom newsletter as well. Please empty the folder and send it back the next day.

In Second Grade we have both daily and weekly homework.

Daily Homework is given Monday through Thursday, and is due the next day. It is a math worksheet designed to practice skills learned that day.

Weekly Homework is given on Friday and is due at the end of the next week. It includes a reading log (to be signed by a parent) and sentences using spelling words.

Tests will be given on Friday. The words are taken from our reading and provide practice with spelling patterns.

We will visit the library each Wednesday. Second graders are able to check out two library books per week. Students are able to exchange books in the morning before school if they forget to bring books back on our class library day.

Our P.E. days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please have your child wear tennis shoes on those days so that he/she can have the most fun possible!

Transportation Changes

If you have a change in pick-up plans, please send me a note, or call the office.

I am not able to send students home with a new adult or allow a change in dismissal plans without express parental permission.

Lunch Money

Breakfast is provided for all students from 7:45-8:00. Lunch is $2.10 (if you don’t qualify for free/reduced lunch). You can send money to my classroom with your child, or pay the office or kitchen. Overdue statements are sent home in Tuesday folders.

We celebrate your child by singing a song, presenting him/her with a birthday pencil, and having special sharing time. Following Prairie Mountain’s guidelines, our classroom celebrations are low-key, and do not include birthday treats.

Volunteers/Field Trips

Volunteers make our classroom world go around! I like to take the first few weeks to get to know the students, and then I will put a call out for volunteers. You need to have a background check on file with the district in order to work with our class. If you want to attend one of our 3 field trips this year, please fill out the background check form, now on the Prairie Mountain Website. You will find it under the “Parents” and “Volunteer” tabs. If you don’t have internet access, please talk to the secretaries in the front office to get onto a computer here at Prairie Mountain to start your background check.
