October Student of the Month

Check out our classroom students of the month for October, Dillon and Haley.

Dillon has picked up the routine of the classroom and school with amazing speed. He is a very kind hearted child who does his best in all areas. Dillon daily practices the Prairie Mountain guidelines!

Haley is a model student in fifth grade. She does an amazing job in class and does a great job with all of her classwork. She can always be counted. Keep of the great work.

Nov 1 Newsletter

Dear Families,

Check out what is going on by viewing the 5th grade blog. In order to view it, go to the Bethel School District website: www.bethel.k12.or.us From there click on the tab that says schools and select Prairie Mountain. Scroll down the page and on the right you will see staff members who have a blog, select Rachel Rhoads.

Fall Conferences

You should have your conference time in today’s Tuesday folder. If you did not receive a time, please contact your child’s teacher. Fall conferences will be next week on Tuesday, November 8th and Wednesday, November 9th.  Remember that Wednesday is a half day, dismissed at 11:10am and that Thursday and Friday are no school days.

New Math Homework

We will be starting our new math homework soon. Please make sure to check your child’s tracker for the new upcoming  homework.

Popcorn Thursday

This Thursday is popcorn day. Make sure to bring a $0.25, ten pride cards, or wear your Prairie Mountain T-shirt this Thursday to receive a bag of popcorn!

OMSI Portable Planetarium

We have the fantastic opportunity of OMSI bringing the stars and constellations to us! On Wednesday, November 30th, OMSI will bring their portable planetarium to us! We will have a live presentation on stars and constellations and then a video called Earth’s Wild Ride. This is a great opportunity that goes along great with our Astronomy unit we are studying in reading. To help cover the cost of this fantastic opportunity, please send in $10 with your child by Friday, November 18th so we can secure the lab.

Fall Conferences
In Tuesday Folders today you will find information about Fall Conferences which will be Tuesday, November 8th and Wednesday, November 9th. Please fill out the form and return it to school with your child. If you more then one child at the school it is very helpful to add their names and teachers, this enables us to schedule the conferences closer together. Remember that Wednesday November 9th is a half day of school with dismissal at 11:10. There will be No School on Thursday, November 10th or Friday November 11th due to Veteran*s Day.

Astronomy Unit
We are very excited to begin our second unit in Reading: Astronomy. With this unit also brings about a change in nightly homework. Students will begin completing pages from their Astronomy workbook in place of their sentences. Please check their assignment tracker to see what pages are homework each night of the week.

Harvest Carnival
Mark your calendars for Friday, October 28th. Prairie Mountain PTO will be sponsoring the Harvest Carnival. Doors open at 5:30. The evening promises to be fun for all ages!

Science Biome Study

Class Biome Projects

Recently in Science the fifth grade have been learning about the six major land biomes on earth: the tundra, tiaga, temperate forests, rain forests, desserts and grasslands. Students learned that each biome differs from the other due to its rainfall and temperature. These two factors in turn affect the plants and animals that live there. Check out several of the projects that we have completed!

Sergio and Kimmy

Sergio is an amazing student. I know that he can always be counted on to set a positive example for others in the classroom. He has been working very hard in fifth grade completing classwork as well as getting all of his homework turned in on time!
 
Kimmy is doing a wonderful job in fifth grade. She is an excellent student and an amazing role model not only for kids in class, but for all students in the school.

Homework Correction

It appears that the spelling sentences that went home as tonight’s homework have words from last weeks list on them. My apologies for the error.

Your child can use their spelling list and use the correct words #1-10 tonight. The spelling words are also found for the week here on the blog.

Sept 27 Newsletter

Jog-a-Thon
We are so excited for the Jog-a-Thon Thursday September 29th. Hopefully your child is collecting pledges. This money will go to our PTO which in turn helps fund field trips and other events here at the school. We could not do all the amazing things without their support. Fifth grade is still looking for 2-3 volunteers to help mark off cards. If you are able to come from 1:00-2:00 please give us a call.

Bethel Talent Show
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 5th. The Bethel Staff Talent show will be held at Willamette High School. This is the second year this event will be held. Last year the show was sold out! Come and watch members from each school perform for you.

Picture Day
Information for Lifetouch Pictures has been going home the last two weeks in Tuesday Folders. Next Friday, October 7th will be our picture day. If your child needs an order form there are extras located in the office.

As the weather begins to turn colder, please encourage your child to dress appropriatly for the day. Send a jacket to school with them for recess times.

Snack time in fifth grade is after morning recess at 10:15. We encourage your child to bring a snack of pretzels, fruit, veggies, or pretzels during this time.
