What is an Ecosystem? Posted on January 10, 2017 by Mr. Kenna Reply Today we talked about what an ecosystem is. This video reviews some of our key terms and reviews what an ecosystem is. Remember our ecological hierarchy (or levels of organization) individual population community ecosystem biome biosphere
Energy Flow & Nutrient Cycles in Ecosystems Posted on January 10, 2017 by Mr. Kenna Reply Here is a video clip that reviews how evergy flows through an ecosystem and covers nutrient cycling. Remember the following relationships: Producers (Plants; Autotrophs) Primary Consumers (Herbivores; Heterotrophs) Secondary Consumers (Carnivores; Heterotrophs) Tertiary Consumers (Carnivores; Heterotrophs) Decomposers (Scavengers or Detritivores; Heterotrophs) **Remember that Omnivores can be primary, secondary, or tertiary consumers depending on what they are eating** Keep in mind that energy flows ONE WAY through an ecosystem, while nutrients are RECYCLED.
