Mt. Pisgah Field Trip
Hi 5th Grade Families,
To accompany our science curriculum, the fifth grade classes will be taking a field trip on Wednesday, October 29th to Mt. Pisgah to learn more about the Willamette Valley’s natural habitat.
Our topic of study on this trip will be Fall Ecology. Malabon students will explore the dynamic changes that take place during the autumn season. They’ll learn why the seasons change, why some leaves turn color and fall, the fascinating processes of photosynthesis and decomposition, and how animals prepare for the coming of winter.
We’ll be leaving the school by bus at 8:40 AM, and we’ll return at 12:20. Please prepare students to be outdoors all morning. We will be eating lunch at the park. Students will need to bring or sign up for a lunch. They should dress in layers so they can stay dry and comfortable. Students will also need to bring coats in case we run into poor weather. If your student has any medication they may need to take, inhalers, allergy medicine, etc., please contact your student’s teacher.
If parents are available, volunteers are welcome. Each fifth grade class can bring up to six parent volunteers to be group leaders on our field trip. Please send a note with your student if you would like to be part of this learning adventure. (Parents will also need to fill out a volunteer form on-line, if they haven’t already.) Volunteers will be placed with their student’s group. The slots fill quickly so please give notice to either Mrs. Haley or Mr. McKenzie as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Haley or Mr. McKenzie.
