Farm to School

The Bethel School District has a very active Farm to School program. Bethel’s nutrition service is a leader in the area of local food procurement and has been a longtime supporter of Farm to School efforts in our community. Our Farm to School program is connected to the Bethel Farm in many ways, providing agricultural and Nutrition lessons, offering School Garden support, and assisting the growth of local food procurement in our district. Our Nutrition Services Department is a champion if both the Bethel Farm and Farm to School and works to incorporate Bethel Farm grown produce in school meals across the district.

We are excited for the coming school year, when, during the months of Sept-Nov, we plan to source several crops primarily through the Bethel Farm for School lunches. This year we have used Bethel Farm produce already in several of our Try it Thursday events in the cafeteria. Try it Thursday is an opportunity for students in the Bethel School District to try a new Oregon grown fruit or vegetable during their lunch period. The Bethel farm, additionally, has provided produce for our salad bars and for our October Oregon Harvest Meal in celebration if National Farm to School Month.
