WHS Art teacher presenting at the OAEA conference this fall!

WHS Art teacher Destry Neu will be presenting at the Oregon Art Educators conference at the University of Oregon on October 14th. She is teaching a workshop of how to make Ceramic Greek Vases in 2 ways. She also will have some of her ceramic artwork on display at the Jordan Schnitzer museum of art through the month of October. Art Teacher Says goodbye to WHS

It was a tough decision, but longtime Bethel teacher Linda Mohr is retiring from the High School this spring. Luckily, students will still get to experience her expertise in art  at Meadow View Middle School where she remains teaching. The WHS Art Dept and students are going to miss her terribly next year, but wish her all the best in her new adventure of being a Grandma.

Art Teachers Attend NAEA Conference in Seattle

Destry Neu and Linda Mohr, both art teachers at Willamette High School, recently attended the National Arts Education Association Conference in Seattle Washington. After spending nearly a week attending workshops and classes, both teachers came away with many new creative ideas to add into their curriculum. These dedicated teachers really have heART!

Ceramics Students working on a Tile Mural

Advanced ceramic students getting their hands dirty while working on a tile mural for the new Bethel Student Health Center. Each student was assigned a tile that will feature a letter and health related imagery. The new mural is scheduled to be finished before the Health Center’s grad opeingin next fall!

Mural Update

The New mural in locker Bay ‘B’ is really taking shape! Students have been worked with local mural Artist Brandi York on a design for the mural. The Design features a wolverine ripping through a brick wall with the words “Worth, Honor, and Success” in the center. This motto is one that WHS has had for many years, and the art students felt that it was a positive message to display in the hallway. The mural should be finished by the end of the school year. Keep a look out for pictures coming soon!

WHS Student Takes Best in Show at the LCC Art Show!

The art department at WHS has been busy!

The self-portrait by Willamette’s Artees Vannett did more than earn a second look. It has been chosen as Best in Show at the 6th Annual LCC High  School Art Show. The piece earned an LCC scholarship for Vannett, a Willamette senior. Artwork from these nine other WHS students was   accepted into the show: Nicole Denson, Katelyn Battle, Kassie McKay, Angel Ramirez, Kaitlyn Sorenson, Ivy Simpson, Tina Hanson, Hannah Eidman, and Katrina Heine. The show continues through Saturday, April 8th at the LCC Art Gallery. Willamette art students have also begun a new mural on campus, and ceramics students are working on a tile mural for the new Bethel Student Health Center. At Wil-Hi, it’s always a great time to “Get Smart and Make Art.”

Bring your Mural Ideas!

Currently the Art Department at WHS is planning for a new mural on campus. If you have any ideas for what you think the mural design should look like, contact Mrs. Neu in room #39. We are also looking for volunteers to help paint the mural.
