Congratulations to the Willamette Boys and Girls Soccer Teams for their Southwest Conference wins last night at Wolverine Stadium.
The girls began the doubleheader with a close 3-2 victory over the first place Sheldon Girls. This win was especially key after the girls lost to Grants Pass on Saturday by a 4-1 margin.
The nightcap saw the Wolverine Boys come out with energy and firepower, as they dominated both ends of the field with a 5-1 margin over a young but talented Sheldon Team. Willamette Freshman Colby Lincoln Bates scored two goals in the victory!
The boys next play at North Medford on Thursday, while the girls don’t play again until next Tuesday, 6 pm at South Eugene!
The JV Boys also won 1-0 while the JV Girls team lost 1-0.
The Lady Wolverine Volleyball team continued their undefeated league season in the Southwest Conference with their 3 games to 0 victory over the visiting South Medford Panthers on Thursday at Willamette High School. Willamette will travel to Grants Pass next Tuesday and then travels to Sheldon on Saturday to begin the 2nd round of league play!
Willamette’s JV Football Team has ended it’s season after just 4 games due to injuries and a low turnout. Willamette is the 2nd Southwest Conference team to suspend their JV Football Schedule due to these reasons. South Eugene only has two teams (Varsity and Freshman) while all other schools continue to have all three teams (Varsity, JV and Frosh).
Congratulations to the Willamette Freshmen Football team for their victory at Roseburg on Thursday, September 25. It’s the 2nd victory over Roseburg this season, and next week they’ll host South Eugene here at Willamette on Thursday, October 2. Game time is 5 pm!
Willamette’s Soccer teams are having to move some scheduled contests due to a shortage of Soccer Officials. “We don’t have enough officials to cover all of the games when a majority of schools schedule their games on the same day”, says Lane County Soccer Officials Commissioner John Hoffman. “We’d love to recruit some new officials to assist us in times like this. It’s a great hobby for anyone who enjoys kids and the game of Soccer!”
Willamette will now host Sheldon HS on Monday, September 29 in order that all four games can be played. Here is the schedule:
4 pm JV Boys vs Sheldon (on JV field in front of stadium)
4 pm JV Girls vs Sheldon (on JV field behind the Stadium)
4 pm Varsity Boys vs Sheldon on Stadium Turf Field
6 pm Varsity Girls vs Sheldon on Stadium Turf Field
The Lady Wolverine Volleyball Team began league play in the new Southwest Conference with a 3-0 victory over the Sheldon Irish at the Wolverine Den on Tuesday night. In front of a packed house, Willamette started strong and never looked back! Behind the powerful offensive play of SR Alycia Wodke and some strong setting by JR Alyssa Gayle, Willamette never trailed in a well played match. SR Libero Tory Bennett anchored the defense and Coach Brian Wodke couldn’t have been more pleased with his team. “The Southwest Conference is loaded with very good Volleyball Teams and I believe we are one of them”, said Coach Wodke. Willamette hosts North Medford on Thursday, September 11. Game time is 6:45 pm.
Willamette officially began the 2014 campaign today when the Lady Wolverine Volleyball team traveled to Thurston for a Varsity Jamboree.

Congratulations to the Class of 2014, who tonight make their final appearance as a Willamette High School student when they walk across the stage to accept their Diploma for a job well done!
This year’s class has had many amazing accomplishments – and certainly will be remember as one of the most talented groups to ever wear a Wolverine uniform. This admirer certainly is aware that there are notable partner’s to the success of the Class of 2014 (i.e. underclassmen) – but here’s just a few of the memories that I will share with the Class of 2014:
- State Finals and 2nd place for WHS Volleyball Team (first ever appearance in the State Finals)
- League and State Girls Basketball Champions (Back-to-Back State Champs)
- League Softball Champions (first time since 1988) and Quarterfinalist in the OSAA State Tourney
- Undefeated Dual Meet Record for WHS Girls Track Team – many State Qualifiers include League Champions Kelsie Loomis in 200M; TeAnna Brooks in Shot Put; and many other Senior State Qualifiers in other events.
- Many All League and All State selections who have been recognized by coaches from around the state as among the Best of the Best!
Congratulations to the Class of 2014 – a wonderful group of student-athletes who have made the most of their four year experience at Willamette High School!
The Lady Wolverines ended their season on Friday in the OSAA Quarter-final game at Hood River Valley. Willamette pitcher held the Eagles to one hit – but the hit was a home run giving Hood River a 1-0 victory. Willamette had 4 hits – but couldn’t bring across a run.
Coach Hatefi couldn’t be more proud of this year’s team – and will plan an end-of-year banquet sometime this week! Congratulations Lady Wolverines!
