The 2nd ranked West Albany Bulldogs edged Willamette 3 – 0 in the OSAA Softball State Playoffs on Wednesday, May 22. In a wet and cold affair – the Bulldogs got some timely hitting and solid pitching to advance to the quarterfinals. Willamette played well – even after a 30 minute rain delay which required the West Albany coaches and personnel to ‘fix’ the field and remove puddles from the soaked field. Coach Darren Hatefi is very proud of this year’s team and their 16 – 9 record. Congratulations on a great year and with losing only 4 seniors off of this years team – next year looks BRIGHT!

With solid fielding, excellent pitching by Willamette Junior Heidi Hall, and some fine hitting – the Wolverines advance to the first round of the OSAA Softball playoffs on Wednesday, May 22nd. Girls Golf 5th and Boys Golf 6th at State!
Congratulations to the Girls and Boys Golf teams for their 6th and 5th place finish at this year’s OSAA Golf Championships. This two-day tournament had many highlights – including Madalyn Ardueser’s 4th place individual finish and Samuel Mar’s 8th place individual finish at the competition. Congrats also to Girls Coaches Dave Zech and Geoff Steiner and Boys Coaches Adam Walker and Barry Bokn.
LADY WOLVERINE GOLF CHAMPIONS!
The Lady Wolverine Golf Team, coached by Dave Zech and Geoff Steiner were crowned MIDWESTERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS yesterday at Tokatee Golf Club. Willamette’s Madalyn Ardueser was the Girls Golf Individual Champion shooting a 77 on the final day for a two day total of 159. Fellow team members Maddie Tibbetts, Ashley Steiner, Heather Marin-Morales and Kay Lee Bevans will head to the OSAA State Championships May 13-14 at Quail Valley Golf Course!
The Willamette Boys Golf team, coached by Adam Walker and Barry Bokn were crowned runner-up in the team competition and will compete at the OSAA State Championships May 13-14 at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis. Willamette held a slim 12 stroke lead heading into the 2nd day and slipped to 2nd place after Marist posted a team score of 302 to edge Willamette by 12 strokes. Willamette was lead by Samuel Mar (72, 82) and Freshman Connor Drath (76, 79). Brett Garrett, William Olson and Kevin Cogley will join the team next week in only their 2nd State Golf Championship appearance by a Willamette Boys Team.

Baseball and Softball Shine this Season!
The Wolverine Baseball and Softball Teams are both enjoying great seasons with some big games down the stretch run to the playoffs!
The Baseball Team, coached by Jon Guldager, are currently tied for 2nd with Springfield with a 4-3 league record and 11-6 overall. Their state power ranking is 11, proving that Willamette has played a tough schedule this season and is looking forward to the playoffs. Willamette will host Springfield this Friday, April 26 at 5 pm at Floyd Ogden Field.
The Willamette Softball team, coached by Darren Hatefi is also in 2nd place with a 6-1 record (11-6 overall), and trailing league leading Churchill who is 5-0. These Lady Wolverines are playing terrific softball behind some clutch pitching by a trio of talented throwers (Heidi Hall, Jenieve Boyles and Alyssa Gayle). Willamette hosts Springfield at home (directly behind Cascade Middle School) on Friday, April 26 – game time is 5 pm!
Tyler Johnson selected for Les Schwab Bowl
Willamette’s Tyler Johnson was recently selected to participate in the Les Schwab Football Bowl. WHS Track Team beats Churchill
The Willamette Track team hosted Churchill High School on Wednesday, April 10 and ‘ran away’ with a boys and girls team victory! Coach Miller was very pleased with many of the performances on Wednesday and will travel to Marist on Wednesday, April 17 to compete against the Spartans. Field events begin at 3:30 with running events starting at 4:15 pm. Willamette’s final home meet will be Wednesday, May 1 vs South Eugene!
WILLAMETTE – STATE CHAMPIONS!
Congratulations to the Lady Wolverines for their 48-41 victory over the Springfield Millers in the OSAA 5A State Championship game at Matt Knight Arena on Saturday night! The Wolverines played terrific defense against Tennessee-bound Merecedes Russell limiting her to just 4 points in the first half and 12 for the game. Meanwhile Willamette was deadly from 3 point range, hitting 9 of 20 and were led by Lexi Bando’s 23 points! Lexi and Brittany Glassow both earned 1st Team All tournament honors. The Lady Wolverines previously won the State Title in 2007 and 2009 and last year finished 2nd to Springfield inn the title game. Willamette finished the season 23-4!
